About the webinar
This webinar will examine how laws, courts, and research intersect in non-signatory states. While many such states lack dedicated domestic legislation on refugee protection, their courts at times draw inspiration from the Refugee Convention, issuing progressive judgments that extend protections beyond what domestic law requires. These dynamics raise important questions about the role of the judiciary in non-signatory states. This has also implications for the kinds of research approaches best suited to capture the intricacies of non-signatory contexts. Participants will reflect on how these interactions shape refugee protection practices and broaden the scope of scholarly inquiry in non-signatory contexts.
