My name is Alida (Steigler). I am 29 years old and come from Hungary. Since April 2023, I have been a doctoral research fellow in an interdisciplinary project – although my own work is exclusively in law. I hold a Master’s degree in Law from ELTE in Budapest and spent one year of my studies at the University of Bergen as an Erasmus student. Afterwards, I was affiliated with the University of Bergen and the Chr. Michelsen Institute in various roles. I now work at the University of Oslo in an 80% position with teaching duties.

Why am I running for election?

As a representative of temporary academic staff, I am particularly committed to amplifying the voices of doctoral research fellows and postdoctoral researchers. I am concerned with how we are treated, with equality and diversity among us, with the room for manoeuvre we have, and with how transparent expectations are.

I would particularly like to work with the following issues:

  • Improving the transition from studies to academic positions for candidates with immigrant and other minority backgrounds.
  • Introducing measures for academic inclusion and training in implicit institutional dynamics, including those related to permanent positions (especially for international, but also for Norwegian staff).
  • Recognising, and providing training in, skills related to research dissemination, so that doctoral research fellows and postdoctoral researchers are supported in reaching the public and other relevant audiences.
  • Supporting applications for additional funding and for building independent projects as part of career development in academia.
  • Increasing the focus on, and transparency about, expectations concerning interdisciplinary research.

Proposed on behalf of the PhD Candidates’ Council (Stipendiatrådet) by Nora Milch, Øystein Flø Baste, Katrine Antonsen, Lars Andre Strøm Arnesen and Victoria Skeie.

My name is Øystein Flø Baste, I am 30 years old and have been a doctoral research fellow at the Department of Public and International Law since 2024.

Why am I running for election?

Between 2022 and 2024, I held various positions at the Faculty as a researcher, academic consultant and research assistant. I have been a member of the PhD Candidates’ Council for one and a half terms, and through this role I have gained a solid understanding of issues that are important for temporary staff in general, and for doctoral research fellows in particular. This makes me well suited to carry out the role of deputy representative in a responsible manner. I am part of the PhD Candidates’ Council because I want to help ensure that life as a doctoral research fellow at the Faculty is a good one. For me, this is about further developing the institutional framework and contributing to a pleasant and inclusive social environment at the Faculty.

Proposed by Alida Rita Steigler.
