Hedig Halgunset (26)

My name is Hedvig Antoinette Halgunset, I am 26 years old and I am in my fourth year of the Master’s programme in Law. Before I started studying law I served for two years in the Norwegian Armed Forces, and in recent years I have worked with political communications at the Storting.
Why am I running for election?
I am seeking this position because I want to improve our day-to-day student experience, make the education more relevant, and ensure that students’ voices are heard.
First and foremost I want to contribute to a more predictable and motivating everyday life at the faculty.
In particular, I believe the teaching format should be adapted to a more varied student life, with better provisions for both in-person and digital participation. In addition, the study programme should be adaptable to each student’s academic interests and career plans, and provide better opportunities for individual support. I also think the programme should offer more practical training opportunities and make exam expectations clearer.
I will also work to make the education more relevant and better suited to future needs.
Students at one of Norway’s most prestigious faculties should not have to worry about whether they will find relevant work after graduation. The ambition should be to educate lawyers with up-to-date, practical and in-demand skills. Therefore I will advocate closer collaboration between the faculty, industry and employers so that teaching, requirements and examinations actually reflect the competence needs of the future.
Finally, I will ensure that students are closer to the decision-making process. There should be a short route from good ideas to actual changes. I will be available for input by phone and email, and in person when you see me on campus.
Student politics make a real difference in everyday life. I am running for the faculty board to achieve changes that create a better and more relevant student experience for us, and I have the experience, energy and determination to make it happen.
