The work in the theme of Sustainable Finance concentrates on how the financial system, and its most significant constituents, can be harnessed to promote a more sustainable ecosystem. In particular the work in the theme focuses on the contribution of financial institutions and instruments to funding unsustainable businesses and ventures, and how regulation at the national and supranational levels can be used to address such market failures. Central in our research is the research stream of Sustainable Banking. Sustainable Finance also interrogates and critically assesses the contribution of other private, public and hybrid financial market actors, including investment funds, institutional investors and public authorities (including central banks).
