Endre Stavang is Professor of Law at the University of Oslo, specialising in natural resources law and law and economics. His research examines how legal institutions shape the use, allocation and governance of natural resources, drawing on economic theory to shed light on legal choices and trade-offs. Combining traditional legal methods with welfare economics and incentive theory, Stavang has been instrumental in bringing law and economics into the mainstream of Norwegian legal scholarship. He has published extensively on environmental law, property law and legal theory, and is recognised for his analytical frameworks showing how efficiency, internalisation and mutually beneficial solutions can inform legal reasoning. A sought-after speaker, he is also active in international research networks.
Stavang was head of the research group in Natural Resources Law from 2015 – 1 January 2026 and is a member of the department's thematic group on law and economics (2026-2028).
