Academic interests and backgroud
Meyer's academic interest is in civil law. He has published in the fields of tort law, contract law and intellectual property law. He is interested in the use of comparative law in legal reasoning, in the theory of civil law, as well as the history of civil law. He is also interested in the significance of EU/EEA law on Norwegian civil law.
Meyer joined as an associate professor in September 2023. He has previously worked as a lawyer at the city solicitor’s office in Oslo, as a deputy judge in Drammen city court and as an associate at the law firm Thommessen. He holds a master's degree in law from the University of Oslo in 2010 and an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge from 2011 (Hons).
Meyer obtained his PhD from the University of Oslo in 2021 with the dissertation (in Norwegian) “From cause to responsibility. An analysis of tort law’s causation requirement in historical, comparative and theoretical perspective”. He was a visiting scholar at the Centre de droit privé at the Université Libre de Bruxelles whilst studying for his phd.
Teaching
Meyer teaches introduction to contract law, the law of sales, and the law of torts in the first year of the master’s programme (JUS1111) and the law of contract and of obligations in the third year of the master’s programme (JUS3112). He is currently responsible for the curriculum on the law on formation, interpretation and validity of contracts in both subjects (“Avtalerett”). He regularly supervises master's theses (JUS5030 and JUS5060) in civil law. He can be contacted for supervision of PhDs in civil law.
