The workshop aimed to build and strengthen knowledge on theories and concepts of peace, conflict and violence, and develop skills for teaching peace and transformative peace at universities in Southeast Asia. The workshop brought together 20 passionate participants from 7 countries across Southeast Asia.
The participants explored the concept of peace through conflict mapping and analysis, and discussed the crucial nexus between peace and human rights. Participating scholars of peace education in Southeast Asia addressed the vital roles of gender and the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda being applied in contemporary peacebuilding. They also engaged participants in interactive group simulations designing peace mediation processes and practicing participatory learning methodologies.
The event concluded with inspiring presentations from the participants on their collective and individual peace education programs and syllabi, ensuring the lessons learned will be taken back to classrooms and different learning spaces across the region.
