The NCHR master program in Theory and Practice of Human Rights recently celebrated the graduation of the class of '25. Students, family members, friends and faculty gathered in the stately Gamle Festsal to commemorate the impressive milestone.
NCHR Head of Department Gentian Zyberi and Acting Dean of Research Eirik Østerud congratulated the students on their dedication and their important work in addressing challenges and advancing the cause of human rights. The event was a powerful acknowledgment of the ongoing human rights challenges and the indispensable role of passionate advocates.
We also heard from student leaders, who delivered powerful appeals - among them, a poignant reading of Mahmoud Darwish' poem "Think of Others":
As you prepare your breakfast, think of others
(do not forget the pigeon’s food).
As you conduct your wars, think of others
(do not forget those who seek peace).
As you pay your water bill, think of others
(those who are nursed by clouds).
As you return home, to your home, think of others
(do not forget the people of the camps).
As you sleep and count the stars, think of others
(those who have nowhere to sleep).
As you liberate yourself in metaphor, think of others
(those who have lost the right to speak).
As you think of others far away, think of yourself
(say: “If only I were a candle in the dark”).
Looking ahead
The graduation ceremony showcased the remarkable achievements of the class of '25, presenting work on a wide range of thought-provoking and relevant topics. The students' work serves to highlight the breath and relevance of human rights in today's world.
