Electoral Platform for the Dean Team - Hennum, Astrup Hjort, and Stenseth.

The close interaction between students and staff in the development of dissemination and teaching methods, as well as forward-looking research, are some of the measures that the candidates will continue into the upcoming deanery. They will present their electoral platform at the Election Meeting on September 25th.

The Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo aims to be an internationally leading faculty, while still maintaining our national responsibilities for research, education, and dissemination. The faculty should have high scientific quality and educate highly qualified candidates. The best framework for this is a good working and learning environment where academic freedom is practised.

Our team believes that the development of the faculty is best achieved through dialogue and cooperation between staff and students. Therefore, this electoral platform contains no points aimed at major upheavals, as we envision a peaceful and dialogue-based development. The departments are important at the Faculty of Law, and the department head groups shall be involved in all important decisions.

Research

  • We shall safeguard and further develop our position as a leading research faculty and facilitate high international quality in the faculty's research.
  • We shall protect academic freedom and individuals' right to choose their research topics and publishing channels.
  • We shall strive for curiosity-driven and innovative research that contributes to addressing key societal challenges.
  • We shall work towards preserving and strengthening the international profile of our research, while ensuring the development of national law and Norwegian as a scholarly language.
  • We shall ensure that research activities at the faculty support research-based teaching.
  • We shall work to ensure that all research at the faculty adheres to national and international standards of ethics and research integrity.
  • We shall strive to maintain good access to external research projects and continue dialogue with the Research Council of Norway and other funders to secure external research funding in the field of law.
  • We believe it should be the choice of researchers whether they want to apply for or participate in external research projects.
  • We shall work towards having a professional administration at the faculty that provides good support for applications and management of research projects.
  • We shall maintain the system of thematic and research groups, and any changes in this structure shall be made in dialogue with the staff.

Studies

  • We shall work to maintain and strengthen the high quality of teaching at the faculty.
  • We shall support the development of varied teaching and evaluation methods.
  • We shall strive to enhance research-based teaching.
  • We shall work to continuously renew teaching and the portfolio of courses so that the courses and their content remain relevant and reflect societal developments (e.g., in technology).
  • We shall work towards implementing skill progression in all programs offered by the faculty to ensure a pedagogical plan and progression of skills throughout the studies.
  • We shall ensure that the programs offered by the faculty are relevant to the professional world our graduates encounter. We shall have regular meetings with various representatives of the professional world to discuss the expectations they have for our graduates.
  • We shall create an environment for students that fosters collaboration and sharing.
  • CELL has been our Centre for Excellence in Education for nearly five years.  It is uncertain whether the funding authorities wish to continue the program. If an extension of CELL becomes relevant, it must be well-supported by the faculty staff and there must be a clear plan on how CELL will contribute to enhancing the quality of the core (mandatory) components of our master's programs.

Dissemination

  • We shall protect academic freedom of expression and have a high level of tolerance at the faculty. We shall have the ability to withstand debate and academic disagreement and promote a good culture of debate and respect for others' opinions.
  • We shall support the many staff members who contribute to dissemination and public debate. The faculty shall support employees who find participation in public debate burdensome.
  • We shall work towards having open events and a visible presence in the city center of Oslo through open debate arenas. We wish to continue the series of "Dilemmas in the Rule of Law" (“Dilemmaer i rettsstaten”).
  • We shall strive to provide students with training in various forms of dissemination during their studies so they can communicate knowledge to different groups in society.

Work and Learning Environment

  • We will support student organizations and promote collaboration with them to maintain a good learning environment where academic and social activities encompass a wide range and are inclusive.
  • We shall have good dialogue with the employee representatives and the safety line to ensure a good and safe working environment for the staff.
  • We shall maintain academic and social meeting places across departments for both academic and administrative staff.
  • We shall actively work to fulfill UiO's climate and environmental goals.
  • We shall safeguard university democracy and have open processes with the possibility for input from staff and students.
