The Department Council may discuss other matters that the Head of Department or other members wish to raise. The discussions of the Department Council are advisory to the Head of Department.
The Department Council shall consist of the following members:
- Head of Department
- Deputy Head of Department
- 2 permanent academic staff members
- 1 temporary academic staff member
- 1 student representative
- 1 technical/administrative staff member
The Head of Department will lead the meetings of the Department Council. In the absence of the Head of Department, the elected deputy will lead the meeting.
As of 1 January 2023, the Department Council is composed of the following members:

- Professor Katrine Kjærheim Fredwall
- Representative for PhD candidates – Doctoral Research Fellow Marit Heier Lajord
- Student representative from JSU (The Law Student Committee)
- Representative for technical-administrative staff – Adviser Gro Halvorsen
- Secretary is Head of Office Eli Knotten
