Background and Academic interests
Thomas Ugelvik holds a PhD in criminology from the University of Oslo from 2010. His research interests include prisons, prison cultures and general penology; desistance processes, reintegration, release from prison; prisoner health and healthy prisons.
He has published in journals such as The British Journal of Criminology; Crime, Media, Culture; European Journal of Criminology; Ethnography; Theoretical Criminology; Punishment and Society and Qualitative Inquiry. He is series co-editor of the book series Palgrave Studies in Prisons and Penology and the co-editor of the journal Incarceration: An International Journal of Imprisonment, Detention and Coercive Confinement.
