This intensive three-day workshop brought together highly skilled professionals from various fields to enhance their expertise in handling sensitive and challenging interview situations.

The training, held from December 1-3, brought together representatives from the Prosecutor General's Office, the National Police of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, and higher education institutions. It was designed to be highly interactive, relying on active participation from all attendees. The programme included a mix of short presentations, discussions, exercises, and group work, ensuring a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

Understanding and managing interviewee vulnerability

The first day focused on understanding vulnerability and preparing for interviews. Sessions covered topics such as trauma management, grounding techniques, and interviewer resilience. Participants engaged in group discussions, and reflections on defining and recognizing vulnerability.

The second day delved into practical aspects of investigative interviewing. Highlights included special considerations for interviewing children, the Enhanced Cognitive Interview technique, and role-playing exercises. The day concluded with thematic discussions on war crimes, vulnerability, and interviewing children.

The final day addressed challenging interview situations, including investigating sexual abuse cases and special considerations in war crimes investigations. Participants explored survivor-centered interview methods and discussed handling high-profile cases through case studies and group discussions.
