NORHED II Project, PhD Training Course on Human Rights Methodology and Approaches

In the context of the NORHED II Project's Partnership for Peace, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights held the professional training course 'Human Rights Methodology and Approaches' for PhD students from 22 to 26 November 2021.

About the Course

The course provided insights into research methodologies in the legal and the social sciences, as well as the humanities, relevant for conducting research in the field of human rights. Some of the issues covered in the course included the basic features of international law methods and their application to human rights issues; the basic features of methodological approaches employed in the various disciplines of humanistic and social scientific research on human rights; gender perspectives in human rights research; and ethical issues involved in conducting human rights research.

A total of thirteen participants from partner institutions attended the course, including from Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia), African School of Economics (Benin), Makerere University (Uganda), and Birzeit University (Palestine).

The course is valid for 5 ECTS study points and the assessment of participants was based on a written essay.

Instructors

The themes of the course were covered in five days through online lectures and seminars, taught by Gentian Zyberi, Christina Voigt, Ibrahim Salama (OHCHR) and Michael Wiener (OHCHR), Stener Ekern, Bård Anders Andreassen, Maria Lundberg, Jakob Elster, Mudar Kassis (Birzeit), and Peris Jones.
