Research stay
Ugelvik was on sabbatical in the Netherlands during the academic year 2024/2025. She was visiting professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, while conducting research on Norwegian police in Europol. The ongoing research project picks up on some of the questions still under-researched after Ugelvik's PhD project, which was concluded in 2014, and the subsequent reworked 2018 book (open access here).
Research interests
Ugelvik's research interests all relate to the state, in various aspects and from different perspectives. The police and policing of citizens and non-citizens, outside, inside and across state borders, have been particularly targeted over the past few years. Also in focus is the state of Norway as international actor in the European context, especially in the area of freedom, security and justice, but also more generally in administrative law. Aspects of (im)migration are also relevant. Continuously investigating the theoretical foundations and ongoing challenges to the state, state control, etc., are similarly important interests.
Teaching
Criminal law and criminal procedural law, police and prosecutorial law.
