The International Department has a long history of working with interns from the Centre's Theory and Practice of Human Rights master programme. This spring we are fortunate enough to welcome four excellent new interns, who will be working on a variety of different tasks and thematic areas.

A warm welcome

Head of the International Department Rita Furuseth Sandberg was happy to welcome the students at an inaugural meeting this week.

"We are very pleased to welcome four interns at the international department this semester," she says. "As students of international human rights, we are certain they will benefit from the department's work on applied human rights projects and bring with them important perspectives and experiences."

Broad range of tasks

The students will be involved in a large variety of the Centre's work, supporting several of the International Department's thematic areas and projects:

Investigative Interviewing

Yasyfa Febriani, who hails from Indonesia, will be working on the Investigative Interviewing portfolio. She will be helping out on a major upcoming conference, and also contribute to various project work, including research on the new criminal procedure in Indonesia. You can read more about the Centre's work on Investigative Interviewing here.

Human Rights Education

The Human Rights Education portfolio will receive support from Meerim Abdylaeva, an NCHR student from Kyrgyzstan. Human Rights Education is a right in itself, and a precondition for the advancement and protection of human rights. Our portfolio on this topic is diverse, and consists of a variety of initiatives which you can explore further on the thematic website.

Business and Human Rights - upcoming visit from the Indonesian Ministry of Law

Mario Angkawidjaja is currently working with Aksel Tømte to prepare a roundtable discussion ahead of an upcoming visit from the Indonesian Ministry of Law this June. The session will focus on several draft regulations, including those related to business entities, beneficial ownership, and corporate criminal responsibility. UN Human Rights Mechanisms

Haili Rao is contributing to business and human rights research and supporting the planning of a workshop on UN human rights mechanisms.

NCHR works to achieve universal access to information, help protect fundamental freedoms and bridge the existing implementation gap. Civil society engagement and awareness of the work conducted by the UN human rights mechanisms is important in order to make state authorities honour their human rights commitments.
