-
Where: The Norwegian Institute of Human Rights, Universitetsgt. 22-24, Oslo
-
When: Wednesday 4 December 11.15 – ca. 12.30
Dr. Guo Yue, professor at the Chinese Institute of Labour and Social Security Studies and Head of the Labour Relations Research Division, will work as a guest researcher at the China Program of the Norwegian Institute of Human Rights for two weeks in December. His research stay forms part of the China Program’s new focus on Labour Relations and Workers’ Rights.
China’s ongoing transition from planned to market economy has been characterised as a very successful one e.g. because of a continuous yearly economic growth rate of some 8% and the country’s recent entry into the WTO. However, this has also resulted in abolition of the “iron rice bowl” e.g. with the closing of inefficient state-owned enterprises and the corollary unemployment challenge. All in all a completely new situation has emerged in the Chinese labour market. Prof. Guo’s lecture will focus on the present situation in the field of labour issues in China. It explores the main difficulties confronting the government and the major problems in the current labour management system. Finally, Dr. Guo also discusses potential countermeasures and development trends in policy making.
The lecture is open for all to attend and advance registration is not necessary. For more information, please call 22 84 20 54 or email to .c.f.wedul@nchr.uio.no
