on Prof. Olle Tornquist's ongoing research project

Assessing and Supporting Democratisation in Indonesia

Place of venue: the seminar room, NCHR (4th floor)

Together with four of his Indonesian research partners Prof. Tornquist will present some of the findings from their previous SAREC and MFA supported project. These findings are currently being transformed into a book, The Post Suharto Democracy Movement, which will be published partly in Indonesian and partly in English.

Further, he will present some of the preliminary findings from their new and ongoing research project, funded by NORAD and the MFA. This project started in january 2003 and has now entered an intensive phase. 

Prof. Tornquist's research partners are representatives of the Indonesian independent research centre, DEMOS:

- Asmara Nababan, former Secretary General of the National Commission on Human Rights (KomnasHAM), current Executive Director of DEMOS

- A. E. Priyono, former leading investigative journalist of the Islamic press, current Director of Reserach, DEMOS

- Willy P. Samadhi, DEMOS researcher, responsible for studies of attempts at democratising political parties

- Donny Edwin, DEMOS researcher, responsible for studies of pro-democratic organising of labour organisations

The DEMOS respresentatives will also be attending the LPD-network's (Local Politics in Developing Countries) 2nd Annual Conference at NIBR (Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Reserach) next week.
