A major factor in the controversies surrounding the process of
globalisation has been the inadequate attention to economic and social
rights. The seminar will address this problem, with particular focus on
the place of the right to adequate food and nutrition in development.
Speakers will include, among others, State Secretary
of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Raymond Johansen, representatives of the FAO Right
to Food
Unit and of the United Nations System Standing Committee on Nutrition,
Asbjørn Eide and Bård Anders Andreassen
from the Norwegian Centre for
Human Rights, and Arne Oshaug from Akershus University College.
On the occasion of this seminar, Volume I of the book Food and
Human
Rights in Development, edited by Wenche Barth Eide
and Uwe Kracht
(Intersentia 2005), will be launched. It is the outcome of a broad
international collaboration on this subject.
