The first "One UN" manual on criminal investigation, endorsed by three major United Nations organisations, is now published. 

The island states of Eastern Caribbean face serious crime challenges that possibly emanate from the nexus of drug and small arms trafficking. The region is subject to major drug trafficking from South America, while weapons are trafficked in from North America. A current challenge is the increase in homicide rates. 

The validation ceremony of the UN manual on Investigative Interviewing on 1 November 2023 marked a significant milestone in the ongoing work to establish an international norm on human rights compliant policing and criminal investigations.

NCHR collaborates with renowned researchers and practitioners, and key international organisations, including UNODC, DPO/UNPOL, and OHCHR, to elevate the standards of interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects. Our partnerships focus on capacity building and developing resources and providing guidance to ensure thorough, efficient, and rights-compliant investigative processes globally.

«True-crime» sjangeren har rettet offentlighetens søkelys mot feilaktige domfellelser og andre justisfeil som følge av bruken av manipulerende avhørsteknikker. «Etterforskningsintervju» (investigative interviewing) er en metode for politiavhør uten manipulasjon, utilbørlig press -  vold eller trusler om vold.

Ms. Ingebjørg Hansen from the Oslo Police shared Norwegian experiences with non-coercive Interviewing during a high-level panel at the UN Headquarters in New York.

NCHR becomes secretariat for drafting a manual providing advice for UN police peacekeepers on advanced methods of investigative interviewing.
