Research areas
The Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law has research programmes in the following areas:
- Maritime Law
- Marine Insurance
- Insurance Law
- Environment Law, see Natural Resources Law
- Energy Law
- Petroleum Law
- Petroleum Contract Law
The Institute is divided into two departments, one for maritime law and the other for petroleum and energy law each with its own research strategy.
In the maritime department the main emphasis is on:
- Contracts in maritime law
- Liability in maritime law
- Safety at sea covering environmental issues
- Infrastructure in the transport sector
In the petroleum and energy department the main emphasis is on:
- The international perspective on petroleum and energy law
- Gas and energy markets
- Border area between petroleum and the environment (among others CO2-catchment and storage)
- Safety at the shelf
- Supply line safety
All the above research subjects are in the permanent research areas.The Institute’s research staff teaches in these areas as elective courses or as a part of the four first departments in law studies.
