Research on gender equality and anti-discrimination law is based on legal protection against discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and reduced functional ability, etc., in accordance with the Convention on Human Rights, EC law and Norwegian legislation.
Overview of the subject area
This area covers direct, indirect and structural discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity, age or reduced functional ability, etc., in accordance with the Convention on Human Rights, EC law and Norwegian legislation.
A key aspect of the methodology is the relationship between international and national sources of law.
The central focus is the content of the different grounds of discrimination and the relationship between them (so-called multiple discrimination).
Special attention is directed towards gender equality and discrimination in the work place. The provisions of the Working Environment Act, the Gender Equality Act and the Anti-Discrimination Act related to appointments, termination of employment, equal pay, harassment, pregnancy and caring for others are the main focus. In addition, the subject area covers the duty of public authorities to take action, the principles of the burden of proof and the competence of national and international bodies dealing with equality.
