Background

Anne Hellum, born in 1952. She holds a major degree in law and a minor degree in anthropology from the University of Oslo. She was awarded the Dr.Juris Degree at the University of Oslo in 1998.

She has worked at the Department of Public and International Law at the University of Oslo since 1987 and been Professor and Director of the Institute of Women’s Law since 2000.

Her main areas of teaching are women’s law, discrimination and equality law, human rights and sociology of law.

She is a visiting professor at the Southern and Eastern African Center for Women’s Law at the University of Zimbabwe (SEARCWL) where she has been involved in cooperation in teaching and research since 1989.

Field of research

Anne Hellum's research areas are discrimination and equality law women’s law, anthropology/sociology of law, human rights and development, and African law.

She is leader of the Institute of Women’s Law, Child Law, Equality and Discrimination Law and the leader of the research group for Rights, Individuals, Culture and Society (RICS) at the Faculty of Law in Oslo.
